Like many of the F - Series Chargepipes. BMW Factory chargepipes are one of the weak points when tuning and modifying these cars. Even stock cars have had chargepipe failures. The factory chargepipe is rather cheap and tends to crack or even at times, explode under high boost.

Today we upgraded this B46 330i to the FTP Chargepipe!

This is an incredibly simple install job.

Here are the tools we will need:

First step, remove the two plastic engine covers. One is on top of the actual engine, the other is in front near the radiator fan. They both pull right off. Set them aside, locate your chargepipe.

Release the sensor on the right side of the chargepipe. There is a clip on the left of the sensor, unlock it with a flathead and the sensor will unplug.

Next is your other sensor on the left side of the chargpipe, this unplugs as well. Move both of these to the side and out of the way.

There are three T27’s holding the chargepipe in place. Remove all three to release the chargepipe from the throttle body.

Next locate the C clip located at the other end of the chargepipe. We will need to release this. Take your flat head, find the top of the c clip and pry upwards until the clip releases. This might take a minute, be patient and keep working it. You can now remove the entire chargepipe from the bay.

Next remove the sensor on the chargepipe, this is a T25. We will be reusing this sensor however we are NOT reusing the T25.

Next unscrew the vacum sensor adapter plug from the old CP and install it into the new CP.

Install the other sensor that we removed, we will be using the alan head screw that is supplied.

Lay the old chargepipe out and assemble the new one next to it. Try to replicate the shape as best as possible. Add in your silicone bushing and two metal clamps on each side. Do not tighten them down all of the way, we want these to be flexible while we install as we will need to adjust things.

Lift C Clip so it is just above the pipe and not seated. You can see here (Left) the clip is lifted (Right) the clip is seated.

We want the clip lifted while we install, then once the Chargpipe is all of the way onto the turbo we will seat it.

Start by seating the lower end of the chargepipe into the car. Make sure that C Clip is properly seated all of the way around. If it isnt your car can throw a boost leak code or worse the pipe can blow off.

Once seated, work on the top section of the chargepipe and fasten your three T-27’s. Once both ends are Tightened down, we can tighten the silicone clamps in the center.

Remember to plug in your last two sensors and reinstall the plastic covers.

And that is it, you are all set!
