I have had 5 different trunk spoilers now on my M2. This high kick spoiler by ECS tuning is by far my favorite. You can pick this spoiler up for both the M2 & The F30:
F87 M2 High Kick Spoiler
I am going to walk you guys through my process for removing old spoilers and installing new spoilers. It can be tricky, and quite frankly a pain if the old spoiler has been on there for a while!
Here are the tools we will need:
30 Pound Test Fishing Line - Buy Here
Eraser Wheel - Buy Here
Heat Gun - Buy Here
Drill - Buy Here
Ceramic Coating (optional) - Buy Here
If the trunk lid spoiler has been on the car for quite a while, it might need some heat to loosen up the adhesive. Run the heat gun over the spoiler for 30 seconds or so.
Then take your fishing line, start at one side of the spoiler. You will want to move the line back and forth in a cutting motion while pushing forward and lifting UP. Do not push down, you will scratch your paint.
Do this until you have moved through the adhesive on the entire spoiler.
Most of the time, you will be left with an adhesive mess like this:
In order to remove the adhesive, take your eraser wheel and run it at an angle over the adhesive. DO NOT stay in one spot, you will burn your paint. Move through the entire adhesive until you have removed all of it. You will want a shop vac handy, this gets messy
Next, take some isopropyl alcohol and clean off the rest of the adhesive. We want the trunk as clean as possible for the new spoiler.
Take the new spoiler and cut the 3m tape in the center of the trunk (Doesn’t have to be dead even). We just want the red tape covering to be revealed on all sides. We do this so when we install the new spoiler, we are able to move it around while its on the trunk to place it perfectly without all of the 3m sticking.
Line up your spoiler while its on the trunk. Once its dialed, start tearing off the red tape coverings. Then press firmly for 20 seconds in sections. I like to start with the edges and work inwards.
And viola! Good to go. I suggest ceramic coating this with Cquartz. All of my carbon is ceramic coated and it makes cleaning and keeping the carbon fresh a breeze. It also deepens the look as well.
